DCSMA Mission Statement

District of Columbia Sexual Minority Advocates (DCSMA) is a forum for change. We are a nonprofit organization established to provide a safe environment for advocacy, education and empowerment for the SM/leather/fetish community in metropolitan Washington, DC. We are non-sexist, anti-racist, pro-sexuality, gender-neutral and non-sectarian. We seek to create a forum that compliments and promotes existing programs, encourages new activities, and strengthens local, regional, and national SM communities.

DCSMA activities are limited to advocacy, education or empowerment efforts which are supported by DCSMA members. Our goal is to nurture and develop leadership within the sexual minority community.

DCSMA activities may include, but are not limited to: advocating the rights of individuals to practice safe, sane and consensual BDSM play; promoting education on safe, sane and consensual BDSM play; promoting a more positive image of BDSM in the metropolitan community and the media; strengthening ties among and between the many groups that represent the SM-leather-fetish community; improving relations between this community and the greater community of adult sexual minorities; and empowering BDSM players, leaders, and organizations to strengthen and unify the leather community in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.
