Non-melanoma <a title=\"Skin Cancer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/\">skin cancer<\/a> often starts with scaly flesh colored or red patches or \u201cpearly\u201d or scabby bumps that do not heal or continue to grow, or occasionally even pimple-like growths that never resolve. <a title=\"Melanoma\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/melanoma\/\">Melanoma <\/a>is caused by sun as well as heredity, whereas non-melanoma skin cancer is caused principally by excessive UV radiation. It is important to detect early as most <a title=\"Skin Cancer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/\">skin cancer<\/a>, even <a title=\"Melanoma\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/melanoma\/\">melanoma<\/a>, is curable with surgery alone.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Actinic Keratosis\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/actinic-keratosis\/\">Actinic keratoses<\/a>, which are pre-cancerous scaly growths can be treated with <a title=\"Actinic Keratosis Treatment\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/medical-procedures\/actinic-keratosis-treatment\/\">cryotherapy <\/a>(freezing), chemotherapy creams (Carac, Efudex, or Aldara) or photodynamic therapy (PDT). We specialize in PDT at <a title=\"Advanced Dermatology\" href=\"\/\">Advanced Dermatology<\/a> but use all methods. <a title=\"PDT\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/medical-procedures\/photodynamic-therapy\/\">PDT <\/a>is great in that it removes the precancerous spots with good cosmetic results and there are usually only a couple of days of redness and peeling.
