What are Port Wine Stains?<\/h2>\n

Port wine stain birthmarks are vascular birthmarks, which can be disfiguring and most often appear in infancy or early childhood.<\/p>\n

Port wine stains, also known as capillary malformations, are a type of vascular birthmark that appears as a flat, red or purple mark on the skin. These birthmarks are caused by an abnormal development of blood vessels near the surface of the skin. While they are typically present at birth, port wine stains can evolve and become more noticeable as a person grows older. They can vary in size and shape and are commonly found on the face, neck, and other parts of the body.<\/p>\n

The exact cause of port wine stains is not fully understood, but they are believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. These birthmarks are not hereditary, meaning that they are not typically passed down from parents to children. Research suggests that certain genetic mutations may contribute to the development of port wine stains.<\/p>\n
