SCC is less common than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/skin-cancer\/basal-cell-carcinoma\/\">Basal Cell Carcinoma<\/a> (BCC), but it is more likely to spread to other body parts if left untreated.<\/p>\n<p>Squamous cell carcinoma is caused by cumulative UV exposure throughout a lifetime. It rarely causes further problems when identified and treated early, although 5% of cases do spread and can require chemotherapy, radiation, or result in death. High-risk areas for SCC to spread are lips and ears.
