While the exact cause of ocular rosacea is unknown, it can be triggered by environmental factors (like allergies and dust) and underlying skin or autoimmune conditions. Symptoms include a gritty sensation in the eyes, red eyelid rims, red eyes, and frequent styes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treatment Options for Eyelid Redness &amp; Irritation<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ocular rosacea cannot be completely cured, so treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing infections. Because the eyes are highly sensitive, topical therapies are often difficult to use. In most cases, dermatologists prescribe oral antibiotics from the tetracycline family, such as doxycycline. Small red bumps and pus-filled pimples often appear on the cheeks, chin, and forehead, which can cause sensitivity or tenderness in the affected areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Phymatous Rosacea &#8211; This rarer, more advanced form causes the skin to thicken and take on a bumpy texture, most commonly on the nose (known as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advdermatology.com\/skin-concerns\/rosacea\/nose-enlargement-rhinophyma\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rhinophyma<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). It can give the nose a swollen or enlarged appearance and is more often seen in men.
