Maintaining a Safe Space (from T-Board meeting minutes: 2 February 1999) In the event that the DCSMA board becomes aware, through a written complaint of a DCSMA member or participant, that the safe space of DCSMA is being threatened by an individual, the following procedure will be followed: 1. The individual will be informed of his/her behavior by an appointed Board spokesperson and will, at the discretion of the Board, be given a chance to improve. 2. If the individual persists with his/her threatening behavior, he/she will be barred from DCSMA meetings, private DCSMA events, and the DCSMA e-mail list for a period of up to 60 days. 3. If the individual persists with his/her threatening behavior upon return to DCSMA after the designated period, he/she may be barred from DCSMA meetings, private DCSMA events, and the DCSMA e-mail list for an indefinite period as determined by the Board. Initiation of each step of this procedure will require a simple-majority vote of the Board unless the individual in question is a board member. If the individual in question is a board member, a 3/4 vote will be required and, upon initiation of step 2 above, the Board member in question shall be removed from the Board. The DCSMA Board recognizes the seriousness of this procedure and agrees not to initiate this procedure without due cause. Actions that violate the safe space of DCSMA include, but are not limited to: threats to or harassment of DCSMA participants at DCSMA meetings, at any DCSMA event, on the DCSMA e-mail list, or in private; persistently disruptive behavior at DCSMA meetings, at DCSMA events, on the DCSMA e-mail list; and significant violations of the confidentiality of DCSMA participants. Members of the DCSMA Board recognize their responsibility to maintain the safe space of DCSMA meetings and shall therefore be held to the highest standards of conduct in carrying out their official duties on the DCSMA Board. --end--
